Chinese short video platform Kuaishou held its first Ecological Opening Conference on Monday afternoon, announcing that Kuaishou and Chinese food delivery giant Meituan had reached an agreement regarding the interconnection of their respective platforms.
Based on the open platform of Kuaishou, both parties will open up the capabilities of content marketing, online transaction and offline performance services, and work together to create a complete, “one-stop” consumption chain.
Meituan will launch their Meituan Applet on the open platform of Kuaishou, providing Meituan merchants with services such as merchandising, online transaction and after-sales. Kuaishou users will be able to go directly through the Meituan Applet to see their packages, redeem vouchers and make reservations.
Coucou Hotpot-Tea Break, Zi Guang Yuan, Shuyi Tealicious, 85°C Bakery Cafe, CoCo Fresh Tea & Juice and many other popular restaurant chains brands in China are the first batch of merchants to set up shop through Kuaishou’s Meituan Applet.
At present, Meituan‘s Applet has completed its pilot launch for the catering category, and will launch many life services categories such as hotels, homestays, scenic spots, recreation and leisure, beauty salons and Murder Mystery Games in the future.
To date, more than 100 kinds of service categories have been developed on Meituan‘s platform within the last year. Categories include unmanned restaurants, Murder Mystery Games, craft and hand-made shops, 2-hour nucleic acid quick tests for COVID-19, private weight loss classes for pets, hair transplant and hair care, shared recording studio and so on.
According to Kuaishou, more than 140 million users browse the operator’s homepage every day. Short video live-streaming platforms represented by Kuaishou have also become a popular content consumption method and have brought new demand and growth possibilities to the local life services industry.

According to the report released by the China Internet Network Information Center, as of June 2021, the number of short video users in China has reached 888 million. According to iResearch, the scale of Chinese local life service market was 19.5 trillion yuan in 2020, and will increase to 35.3 trillion yuan by 2025.
