Boxing and martial arts purists might balk at the likes of Jake Paul, but the YouTuber-turned-boxer has just stated that he is ready to put people’s doubts to rest.
While still a relative newcomer to boxing, Paul has a 4-0 record in the ring, and his victory over former UFC welterweight Tyron Woodley in late 2021 has further strengthened his conviction that he has got what it takes to fight in MMA. Even prior to his fight against Woodley, Paul was trying to bait the controversial UFC fighter Conor McGregor into agreeing to a match.
“I’m the money fight for Conor McGregor right now,” he said. “There is no other fighter right now who is on a bigger level than me that is calling out Conor McGregor and wants to fight Conor… People at first thought I was just joking when I said I wanted to fight him. But now it’s as real as it gets, it’s more real than ever and by the way, if we do fight, I’m going to knock him out.”
It looks like the former influencer is now bearing down on that aspiration in 2022: he recently tweeted a short video of his MMA training, in which he can be seen practicing leg kicks with his coach.
“1st day training kicks,” Paul wrote in the tweet. “Doubted every step of the way.. but kick down the doors of the doubters.”
While the other details of what he is doing in his MMA training are unclear, Paul did share his boxing prep regime in November, revealing that he works out six days out of seven each week, with two days focusing on cardio, conditioning and mobility, and the other four dedicated to sparring and heavy bag work.
